Making the most of a small space

This terraced house driveway is south facing and was in need of greening up giving the house more kerb appeal and to disguise some of the broken tarmac.
Square timber planters and terracotta pots gave a good area of planting, but I also wanted to bring in some height and a moveable planter which could be used as screening in different positions. Using offcuts of decking boards, and other timbers plus some large castors, I built a chunky planter which I then painted dark grey as well as the smaller planters. This gave the planted up space cohesion with terracotta pots placed between the timber planters and around the offshoot kitchen window.

The height in the large planter comes from a pretty Sambucus nigra, at the other side is Centarea nigra with pink flowers, Alium ‘Purple Sensation’ bulbs, Echinacea, Daffodil ‘Tete a Tete and Violas fill the planter and will bring year round colour and interest.
